For the past few days I have been fidgeting with the word, water.
What is this W-A-T-E-R??? was the question that was rising in my mind. I was trying to define it in every possible way. You just try to define water. Isn’t it kind of difficult? Well, my first definition was that water is a thing i.e. noun . How’s my definition.? Kind of nice isn’t it?So, trying different ways to define water, I finally came up with the idea of looking into the dictionary and perhaps I came up with the perfect answer which is – water is a colorless tasteless transparent odorless liquid compound of oxygen and hydrogen. When I checked this word in the dictionary I came up with 64 water related words starting from watercolor to waterloo. A long list it was.
The topic water got into my head because where ever I look I found the word conservation in my geography text book and on number one spot on the conservation list was water!! This kind of interested me. Water conservation! I have learnt that ¾ % of earth is covered with water. then why conserve? Well ,actually all of us are aware that out of the 100% of water only 1% is available for us for use. 97% of water is in oceans and seas and the rest 2% in polar regions in the form of snow. Just imagine, only 1% is available for this huge population.
No wonder why there is a need to conserve water. But I thought that there are billions of people on this world , Do all people get water?? I did a little bit of research on this. It was kind of interesting to know that there are people facing water shortage especially the poor. I saw the photos of people of remote regions in the country standing in long queues in wait of their chance to take water from the one and only hand pump in the region. Then is when we need to think how blessed we are!
Open the tap and there comes water! Well, how many of us just think about closing the same tap we have opened? We may close it BUT will it be still dripping after it has been closed? That is a kind of thing that always happen to me. I close the tap carelessly and it still remains dripping causing a huge loss in water. These are the simple ways in which water gets wasted. When there is wastage of water , there is loss for nobody but us ourselves. When all these click the heads of ours we immediately start of with the 2 words CONSERVE WATER!!! But Is the 2 words being practiced! This a question that needs thinking.
